What is collagen?

The cornerstone of health and beauty

Collagen is a key protein that is found everywhere in our bodies. It represents one-third of all the albumins in the human body and keeps people young, healthy and attractive. Our skin contains up to 70% collagen, but collagen is also present in our bones, joints, cartilages, blood vessels, and eyes.

What function does collagen fulfil?

As a natural protein, collagen is essential for maintaining the balance of nutrients in the skin. A young and healthy skin can absorb and store moisture thanks to collagen. That is what keeps it soft and smooth. It also blocks out harmful substances and ultraviolet rays. Collagen helps our cells to absorb oxygen (O2) and to eliminate waste products such as carbon dioxide (CO2).

The concentration of collagen in our body falls constantly after about 20 years of age. This can particularly be seen in the skin, the largest organ in the human body. It loses its natural elasticity and wrinkles are formed.

To understand the natural development of the skin throughout life, it is important to realise that the processes of metabolism slow down as the years go by.

At 20: the skin is in excellent form. After puberty it has a smooth and rosy appearance.

At 30: the body is already producing less collagen. Small facial wrinkles start to appear.

From 40 onwards: the production of collagen continues to decrease, which means that the skin slowly loses its natural suppleness.

From 50 onwards:  small wrinkles gradually become permanent. The lack of elasticity is particularly seen in the neck and the bosom, where the fatty tissue is thinner.

Collagen is also essential for the absorption and storage of moisture in the skin, and for keeping it supple.

Cellular regeneration capacity decreases as we get older.

Thanks to our   and   hyaluronic gel we restore the hyaluronic acid that the skin loses with age, maintaining hydration and increasing cellular activity and the production of collagen and elastin.
